Frequently Asked Questions

Is my video uploaded to a server? +
No. PureCut uses FFmpeg.wasm to process everything locally in your browser. Your video never leaves your device — ever.
Is the output truly lossless? +
Yes. PureCut uses FFmpeg's -c copy mode — no re-encoding occurs. Original bitrate, resolution, and codec are preserved. Note: cut points snap to keyframes, so a slight offset of a few frames may occur at boundaries.
What input/output formats are supported? +
Video input supports MP4, WebM, MOV, and other common formats. Audio files (MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG, M4A, AAC) can also be loaded directly. Output varies by mode: video+audio → MP4, audio-only lossless → M4A, audio-only MP3 → MP3, video-only → MP4 (silent).
Can I trim audio files directly or extract audio from video? +
Both are supported. Load MP3, WAV, FLAC and other audio files directly to trim and merge them losslessly. To extract audio from video, choose "Audio only (lossless)" for M4A, or "Audio only (MP3)" to convert to MP3.
Can I process large files? +
PureCut can handle files up to a few hundred MB to around 1GB depending on your browser and system memory. Very large files (several GB) may not work due to browser memory limits. For large files, a desktop tool like LosslessCut may be more suitable.
Does gain adjustment affect audio quality? +
Setting gain to anything other than ×1.0 applies FFmpeg's volume filter, which re-encodes the audio track. Keeping gain at ×1.0 outputs audio losslessly (stream copy). Gain is ignored in video-only mode.
Does it work on mobile? +
Yes, PureCut works on Android and iOS. After exporting, tap "⬇ Save / Share" to save the file to your device. However, we recommend a desktop or laptop for the best timeline control and processing speed.
